Mamma Mia!

Mamma Mia! at Des Moines Civic Center

Ever need a night that reminds you why musicals exist in the first place? Mamma Mia! delivers exactly that: a story about love, friendship and identity on a Greek island, all told through the songs of ABBA. It's not a concert. It's a musical built around music that already lives in your memory, now woven into a narrative about a young woman searching for her father on the eve of her wedding. The story gives the songs new weight, and the songs give the story its heartbeat. Saturday, May 8, 2027, at 7:30 PM, Des Moines Civic Center hosts a production designed to make you feel something uncomplicated and joyful.

ABBA's catalog carries decades of emotional currency. Hearing those songs performed live within a story framework changes the experience. Theater transforms familiar music into shared moments, and Mamma Mia! leans into that transformation without apology. The music you know becomes the soundtrack to characters navigating messy, relatable human dilemmas.

Bring the person who sang along to ABBA in the car. Bring your mother, your best friend, or the partner who appreciates a night built around joy instead of cynicism. This is the musical that doesn't demand heavy emotional labor; it offers permission to simply enjoy the ride.
