Mamma Mia!

Mamma Mia! at Des Moines Civic Center

Some weeks demand an escape that doesn't require deep thought or emotional labor. Mamma Mia! is that escape. It's a musical built around the songs of ABBA, set on a Greek island, filled with friendship, romance and the kind of joy that makes you forget about everything waiting outside the theater. Friday, May 7, 2027, at 7:30 PM, Des Moines Civic Center hosts a story about love and identity told through music that already lives in your head.

The plot follows characters navigating relationships and self-discovery, but the real draw is hearing those songs performed live in a story that gives them new context. ABBA's catalog carries decades of emotional weight for a reason. Mamma Mia! leans into that familiarity and turns it into something you experience together, not alone in your car or kitchen.

Bring someone who needs a night off from the serious stuff. Bring your mom, your best friend, or the person who still knows every word to "Dancing Queen." This is theater designed to lift you up, not challenge you. Let someone else supply the entertainment while you sit back and enjoy the ride.
