What are the seating options?

Hoyt Sherman Place Theater has 1,252 seats, with 776 on the main floor and 476 in the balcony. Built in 1923 and restored in 2003, the theater hosts concerts, comedy, dance, lectures and other presentations. The official visitor page links a seating chart, and the ticketing map identifies the sections and seats offered for a particular performance.

Where can I park and how do I arrive?

The venue lists free parking in its lot directly east of the building, along neighborhood streets and in the UnityPoint lot at the southeast corner of 15th Street and Woodland Avenue. Watch for posted restrictions and other street users when walking through Sherman Hill. Valet service is offered at selected events, beginning an hour before showtime near the east-side box office; confirm whether your performance includes that service.

What accessibility services are available?

Accessible seating is on the main floor and can be arranged through the venue box office or Ticketmaster. The published policy provides for a guest with an access need and one companion, with up to three companions when space allows. Discuss the seating arrangement when buying tickets, particularly if members of your group need to sit together.

What can I bring inside?

The venue’s bag limit is 12 by 12 inches. Bags and other personal items are subject to search, including smaller purses. Diaper and medical bags may exceed the size limit but still need inspection. Some artists impose additional restrictions, so check the instructions for your show before packing.

Professional cameras with detachable lenses or flash, audio and video recording equipment, weapons, outside food and drinks, and oversized backpacks are among the prohibited items. Small-camera permission depends on the event. The venue does not safeguard prohibited belongings; leave them at home or allow time to return them to your vehicle before entering.

Are refreshments available?

The venue sells beer, wine and nonalcoholic drinks, but does not sell food. Concessions accept cash or cards. Arrange a meal separately if you need one before the performance.

Where is the box office?

The box office is at the east entrance beside the parking lot. Regular weekday hours are 10 AM–5 PM; call 515-244-0507 about event-day or holiday changes. Bring government-issued identification matching the ticket name for will-call pickup.

What else is on the property?

The theater is one of several spaces at Hoyt Sherman Place. The gallery, built in 1907, accommodates up to 150 people for a seated dinner, depending on the event arrangement. The Center for Artists and Education, completed in 2020, includes the Fred & Emily Weitz Community Room and the Krause Great Hall for meetings and other activities.
