A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol at Stoner Studio Theater - Des Moines Performing Arts

Some stories belong to December the way snow belongs to winter. Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol follows Scrooge through visits from the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, a journey from bitterness toward redemption that has anchored the season for generations. Iowa Stage Theatre Company brings the tale to Stoner Studio Theater at Des Moines Performing Arts on Saturday, December 12, 2026, at 7:30 PM, using movement, music and fresh storytelling perspectives. If you've been looking for theater that captures the spirit of the season without defaulting to predictable cheer, Dickens’ story gives you both seasonal atmosphere and a moral question to consider.

Dickens understood regret, isolation and the possibility of change. His characters feel real because they wrestle with recognizable emotions: loneliness, missed chances, the quiet fear that time is running out. Theater gives those struggles a voice and a face. Iowa Stage's interpretation trusts the power of the original story while finding new ways to tell it.

Bring someone who appreciates theater that earns its emotional weight. Make room in your December for a story about second chances before the year closes. Explore tickets for A Christmas Carol at Stoner Studio Theater and plan a Saturday with Dickens’ story.
