Ballet Des Moines: The Nutcracker
Ballet Des Moines: The Nutcracker at Hoyt Sherman Place Theater
Clara receives a nutcracker, dreams him to life, and discovers a world where toys battle and sugar plums dance. Ballet Des Moines brings that story to Hoyt Sherman Place Theater in Des Moines on Friday, December 11, 2026, at 7:00 PM, set to Tchaikovsky's score and featuring the Heartland Youth Choir. The Nutcracker endures because it captures the feeling of childhood wonder meeting grown-up courage, all wrapped in music that has survived because it still moves people more than a century later.
Live ballet lets you watch artistry happen in real time. Dancers tell a story without words, using movement to convey emotion, narrative and character. Tchaikovsky's music becomes the pulse of the evening, giving Clara’s story a musical thread. The Heartland Youth Choir’s participation gives listeners another element to anticipate.
December fills up fast, but some traditions deserve protection on the calendar. Find someone who loves a good story told beautifully and claim an evening together. Explore tickets for Ballet Des Moines: The Nutcracker and choose a Friday for ballet.
