Ballet Des Moines: The Nutcracker
Ballet Des Moines: The Nutcracker at Hoyt Sherman Place Theater
Clara receives a nutcracker doll, falls asleep, and wakes to a world where toys battle mice and sugar plums wait beyond the snow. The Nutcracker has survived more than a century because the story captures something universal about childhood wonder and the magic of believing in impossible things. Ballet Des Moines brings Tchaikovsky's score and Clara's journey to Hoyt Sherman Place Theater in Des Moines on Sunday, December 13, 2026, at 5:00 PM, with live voices from the Heartland Youth Choir adding seasonal depth to the performance.
Tchaikovsky’s score gives the ballet a musical identity many listeners recognize before their first performance. Following that music alongside the dancers offers a way into Clara’s story even if ballet is new to you.
Bring the people who make your holidays meaningful. Let someone younger see a story that's been told for generations. Let someone older revisit the magic they once knew.
