Derrick Stroup

Derrick Stroup at Hoyt Sherman Place Theater

Derrick Stroup talks fast, thinks faster, and performs with the kind of energy that feels combustible in a live room. The Alabama-born comic has been described as having the cadence of an angry auctioneer, mixing detailed stories with over-the-top delivery that builds and builds until the punchline lands. Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 9:30 PM, Hoyt Sherman Place Theater in Des Moines hosts a comic whose style works best when you're sitting in the audience watching it unfold in real time.

His Netflix special Nostalgic hit the U.S. Top 10 because the material clicks: growing up in rural Alabama in the 1990s, the absurdity of a specific time and place rendered universal through sheer storytelling skill. Stroup debuted on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2023, proof that his energy translates to any stage. Live comedy gives you the version of a performer that can't be edited, paused, or second-screened. You get the rhythm, the build, the spontaneous moment that only happens once.

A late Saturday show is permission to stay out, laugh hard, and let someone else do the talking for the evening. Bring the friend who appreciates a comic who commits fully to every story. Explore tickets for Derrick Stroup at Hoyt Sherman Place and claim a night built for comedy that moves.
