The Phantom of the Opera

The Phantom of the Opera at Des Moines Civic Center

Return to a musical because the work interests you, not because you already know every scene. The Phantom of the Opera has held audiences spellbound for decades because it understands longing, obsession, and the kind of love that defies reason. Andrew Lloyd Webber's score delivers sweeping melodies that stay with you long after the curtain falls, and this production preserves Maria Björnson's original design in a revitalized staging built for the tour. Friday, March 12, 2027, at 7:30 PM, Des Moines Civic Center hosts a theatrical experience that reminds you why live theater still matters.

The music alone justifies leaving the house. Following the story through its musical score, watching the story unfold with costumes, lighting, and voices filling the space around you—streaming can't replicate that. Theater works because it pulls you into a world you can't pause or rewind, only experience as it happens.

This is the show that introduced musical theater to people who thought they didn't like musicals. It's the production parents remember from years ago and want to share with their kids. It's a story about beauty, danger, and impossible choices, told with the kind of spectacle that reminds you why people still gather in theaters.
